Project Overview

In 2024, Iowa Speedway underwent a significant partial repave project in preparation for hosting its first-ever NASCAR Cup Series event.

As the lead contractors, our team was responsible for executing this high-profile upgrade to the 0.875-mile oval in Newton, Iowa.

The project focused on repaving the bottom two lanes of all four corners, while the straightaways retained their original pavement from 2006. This approach balanced the need for improved racing conditions with preserving the track’s unique character. The fresh asphalt provided smoother grip and enhanced durability, while still allowing drivers to experience the worn, challenging surface on the straights.

Our Approach

Our team brought expertise in asphalt paving, milling, and surface stabilization to ensure the project was completed on time and to the highest standards.

Working closely with NASCAR and track officials, we coordinated logistics, managed materials, and executed precision paving under tight deadlines.

The successful completion of this project demonstrated our ability to deliver complex, high-visibility infrastructure improvements that directly impact both safety and fan experience.

Outcomes & Results:

Scope of Work: Partial resurfacing of the corners, specifically the lower lanes, to improve safety and performance.
Purpose: To prepare the track for NASCAR’s inaugural Cup Series race in June 2024, as well as the NTT IndyCar Series event later that summer.
Impact on Racing: The repave introduced new variables for teams and drivers, creating fresh racing lines and strategic challenges. NASCAR and IndyCar officials confirmed the surface met all performance and safety standards.
Reception: While some drivers initially expressed concern about the “split surface,” the repave ultimately delivered competitive racing and showcased Iowa Speedway as a premier venue for national series.
