The Johnson/Linn County Removal project supported the conversion of Highway 380 from two lanes into a modernized three to four-lane roadway designed to improve traffic flow, capacity, and long-term safety.
Over the course of two construction seasons, crews removed approximately 260,000 square yards of existing pavement, totaling more than 108,000 tons of asphalt.

The Asphalt & Milling Division deployed several of its largest milling machines throughout the project, including the W250i, W220i, W250Fi, and W220Fi.
With multiple mobilizations in and out of the corridor over two years, crews worked closely with vendor partner to coordinate schedules, maintain production, and support ongoing roadway reconstruction activities.
Scope of Work:
Removal of approximately 260,000 square yards of existing asphalt pavement along southbound Highway 380 between Highway 30 and the Swisher exit.
Equipment Utilized:
Large-scale milling operations completed using Manatt’s W250i, W220i, W250Fi, and W220Fi milling machines.
Project Coordination:
Successfully completed over two construction seasons through ongoing collaboration and scheduling coordination.
Impact:
The project helped prepare the Highway 380 corridor for expanded three to four-lane roadway improvements connecting Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
